    There are three ways to enter this Program. Choose from one of the following options.

    • Problem Solving (11.0)
    • Mechanical Reasoning (51/70, 6th Stanine or higher)

    Note(*): Based on the results of your assessment(s), you may be required to participate in an assessment interview to determine your admissibility. Interview may be conducted via teleconference if necessary.

    1. You are encouraged to:

    • submit a resume and handwritten statement outlining reasons for wanting to enter the program*
    • complete a test of mechanical reasoning skills*
    • complete the College English/Math Achievement Test (EMAT)* – which assesses proficiency in English and/or Math

    Note (*): These requirements will be used to select students if the program is oversubscribed.


    Admission Advice

    1. If you are a mature student (ie - at least 19 years old on the first day of classes and have been out of the regular school system for at least one year), it is possible to be admitted to the program without meeting the above academic admission requirements. For details, contact a CNC academic advisor.

    2.  If the program is oversubscribed, the following criteria will be used to select the class:

    • Letter grade for English 10, English 030 or Communications 11 or equivalent (= up to 4 points for an "A" grade)
    • Letter grade for Foundations of Math 10 or MATH 030 or equivalent (= up to 4 points)
    • Physics 11 (C) or equivalent (= 4 points)
    • The mechanical reasoning portion of the Student Readiness Assessment (= up to 5 points)
    • The English portion of the Student Readiness Assessment (= up to 1 point)
    • The Math portion of the Student Readiness Assessment (= up to 1 point)
    • One of the following: completion of one or more Grade 12 trades-related courses (at least B); or completion of any foundation-level trades training program; or documented experience of one year in a trade (= 3 points)
    • One of the following: English 11 (C), or Math 11 (C), or Trades Math 041 and 042 (C) (= 3 points)
    • Submitting a resume and personal handwritten statement indicating your reasons for wishing to enter this program (= up to 3 points)

    Total Points Available = 28

    3. Secondary school graduation with English 12, Math 11 and Physics 11 is required by some employers of apprenticeship trainees. Contact program faculty for more details.

    2. English proficiency is required for all students entering CMTN programs.  Please visit the English Language Alternatives page to see the equivalent of English Studies 12. 

    3. If you do not meet the program entry requirements, you are encouraged to speak with the Program Coordinator as you may be considered for admission based on other criteria. 

    4. If planning to transfer to university or enter into professional accounting programs you should have Math 12. All Bachelor of Commerce Degree programs in BC have a calculus requirement.
