  • Early Childhood Care and Learning Certificate

    Application Advice: Applications may be submitted after September 15th for entry the following Fall. Applications should be completed by April 24 to be eligible for the first selection process.

    BC High School Graduates require the following for entry into the Bachelor of Arts Program:

    1. Admission Average = for all provinces, the best grade for each required course will be used (either the course mark or the course mark blended with the provincial exam).

    Program Details:

    Academic/Non-Academic

    New students are admitted to the program in one of three ways:

    Path #1: Working/Paid Professional (for education assistants employed in a public school or Group 1 Independent School)

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • a letter of reference from your current employer, on school district letterhead, confirming employment.

    Path #2: Active Volunteers (for students with school-based volunteer experience)

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • an Education Assistant Volunteer Experience Record completed by your supervising teacher or principal to verify at least 65 hours of classroom volunteer experience in the past three years. 

    Path #3: Special Admission (for students who do not qualify for full admission into the program. Special admission students can register for one semester in CASS 110, CASS 120 and/or CASS130)  

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • in progress to complete at least 65 hours of relevant volunteer experience before the end of your first semester in the program. To continue in the program, you must submit the Education Assistant Volunteer Experience Record showing successful completion of at least 65 volunteer hours in a public school classroom as well as CASS 110 and CASS 120 (with at least a "C" grade is required to enter the practicum).  

    Note (*): If you did not achieve at least a "C" grade in English 12 (or equivalent) you must write an English test at CNC. To do so, contact CNC's Testing and Tutoring Services at 1.800.371.8111, ext. 5837

    Academic

    There are two entry points for this program:

    • following completion of the Diploma in First Nations Language; or
    • concurrently while completing the required First Nations Studies and general academic course work.
    Non-Academic
    • documentation of a successful Criminal Records Check.

    Admission Advice

    1. You must be admitted to the program before beginning your professional education courses.

    2. You are encouraged to identify your fluency in a specific language (Gitksanimx, Nisga'a, Ts'msyen Sm'algyax or Carrier language) and your knowledge of Gitksan, Nisga'a, Ts'msyen or Carrier culture and history.

    3. Advanced placement in language courses may be considered if you are able to demonstrate fluency in the language.
