  • Biology Concentration

    Admission Advice
    1. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called course prerequisites) which are listed within College of New Caledonia’s course description. Check course prerequisites before registering individual courses. If you need help meeting course prerequisites, academic upgrading options are available.

    2. If you have a "C+" grade or less in Principles of Math 12 (interim grade) or MATH 050, you will need to register in MATH 100 during your first semester before you can register in MATH 101, CSC 109, PHYS 101, or CHEM 111.

    Application Advice: Early applications are accepted up to one year in advance of the intended start date.     3. Self-identified Aboriginal applicants who meet or exceed the minimum requirements for admission to the program are given priority for up to 20% of the first-year seats for the Bachelor of Health Sciences program.

    4. Students interested in specializing in the Biomedical Studies Major are strongly encouraged to take Pre-Calculus 12 or Principles of Mathematics 12, and Chemistry 12 before entering the Program.

    3. If you do not meet the program entry requirements, you are encouraged to speak with the Program Coordinator as you may be considered for admission based on other criteria. 

    4. If planning to transfer to university or enter into professional accounting programs you should have Math 12. All Bachelor of Commerce Degree programs in BC have a calculus requirement.

    5. If you are unsure of the courses needed for program entry and/or for course registration, contact a CMTN Educational Advisor. Advisors are available to help you access and navigate the courses/programs of interest to you.

    2. If your high school was not taught in English, you need one of:

    • IELTS (6.0, with no band less than 6.0)*
    • TOEFL (iBT = 78)
    • Canadian Academic English Assessment (CAEL = 60)
    • Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA = 8 in each section)
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE = 57)
    • Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB = 76)
    • Cambridge-Michigan Language Assessment (CaMLA = 69), plus NLC's Writing Assessment
    • Completion of a post-secondary credential from a recognized Canadian institution
    • Completion of NLC’s English for Academic Purposes (EPA) 060-level Certificate.

    Note (*): If you meet the English proficiency requirement using an IELTS score and have a writing band of 6.0 or less, you are required to complete NLC English 099 with at least a "B" grade in your first semester at NLC.
