    3. Self-identified Aboriginal applicants who meet or exceed the minimum requirements for admission to the program are given priority for up to 20% of the first-year seats for the Bachelor of Health Sciences program.

    Program Details:

    Academic/Non-Academic

    New students are admitted to the program in one of four ways:

    Path #1: Paid Professional (for students employed as paraprofessionals providing support services to persons with disabilities)

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • a letter of reference from your current employer, on agency letterhead, confirming employment.

    Path #2: Volunteer Service Provider (for students volunteering service to people with developmental disabilities)

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • a Community Support Worker Certificate Volunteer Experience Record completed by a supervisor which shows at least 65 hours of direct service in the past three years. 

    Path #3: Caregiver (for students at least 19 years old who are caregivers [eg-parent, guardian or sibling of a person with a developmental disability)

    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • a completed Caregiver Personal Statement Form
    Path #4: Special Admission (for students who do not qualify for full admission into the program. Special admission students can register for one semester in CASS 110, CASS 120 and/or CASS 130)
    • English 12 (C)* or equivalent
    • in progress to complete at least 65 hours of relevant volunteer experience before the end of your first semester in the program. To continue in the program, you must submit a CSW Volunteer Experience Record showing successful completion of at least 65 volunteer hours as well as CASS 110 and CASS 120.  

    Note (*): If you did not achieve at least a "C" grade in English 12 (or equivalent) you must write an English test at CNC. To do so, contact CNC's Testing and Tutoring Services at 1.800.371.8111, ext. 5837

    1. It's strongly recommended that you have completed the following courses (within the past five years), or have a strong working knowledge of the course content:

    • Typing 11 (with a keyboarding speed of at least 20 words per minute)
    • Computer Science 11 or 12
    • Data Processing 11 or 12

    2. When there are too many applicants for the number of seats, the following criteria will be used to select half the class:

    • completion of the Math requirement with at least a "B" grade is worth two points;
    • completion of a secondary or post-secondary computer course featuring at least 25 hours of instruction in the last three years is worth one point per course, to a maximum of two points.

    2. If you do not meet the above admission requirements, you can gain program entry by successfully completing the appropriate assessments and/or upgrading courses.     1. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called course prerequisites) which are listed within College of New Caledonia’s course description. Check course prerequisites before registering individual courses. If you need help meeting course prerequisites, academic upgrading options are available.

    2. If you have received less than a "B" grade in English 12 (or equivalent), you are strongly encouraged to select ENGL 103 as your first university-credit English course.

Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called course prerequisites) which are listed in the course descriptions within the program outline. Biology 11, Chemistry 11, and/or a Math 11 may be required as course prerequisites if you plan to transfer to a laddering program after completing the diploma.

    3. If you do not have the prerequisites for the courses you wish to take, it's possible to upgrade by taking Career and College Preparation courses along with selected university credit courses.
