    1. If you are unsure of the courses needed for program entry, don't hesitate to contact a NWCC advisor. Advisors are available to help you access and navigate the courses/programs of interest to you.

    2. If you do not have the prerequisites for the courses you wish to take it's possible to upgrade by taking Career and College Preparation courses along with selected university credit courses. For more details consult an advisor.

  • Dental Assisting Certificate

    Application Advice: Applicants must be submitted after September 15 for admission in the following year. Early application is encouraged. Applications received after March 31 for Fall entry will not be processed if the program is oversubscribed.

If you have no previous dental experience, you may wish to consider CNC's Introduction to Dentistry course (see DENO 150 course description).

    Admission Advice

    When the program is oversubscribed, the following criteria will be used to select half the class:

    • Letter grade for English or Technical and Professional Communications or English 045 -- contributes up to four points. Maximum Possible Points (MPP) = 4 points for an "A" grade
    • Letter grade for Biology 12 or Biology 050 = up to 4 points
    • Residing in BC or the Yukon = 1 point
    • One of the following: completion of DENO 150 = 2 points; completion of a Dental Receptionist Program = 2 points; volunteer work or chairside experience of at least 30 verified hours in a dental office = 2 points; 15 to 29 hours of verified volunteer work or chairside experience = 1 point
    • Persistent Interest in the Program - as show by repeated applications = 1 point

    Program Details:

    Academic

    1. Completed 90 appropriate credits from the subject areas of English, Biology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. The specific course requirements are detailed on the Faculty of Medicine website. At least a 75% average is needed for all university-level courses attempted.

    2. Take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and request that your results be released to UBC

    Admission Advice

    1. No particular degree program is considered ideal as preparation for the study and practice of medicine. A variety of pre-medical academic backgrounds is considered desirable.

    2. Admission is extremely competitive. There are far more applicants than available spaces in the program.

    3. You must apply using the online application available on UBC's Faculty of Medicine website.

    4. The selection of students for the Northern Medical Program is the same as all medical students (ie - Island Medical Program and the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program), with the addition of a "Rural Remote Suitability" score which estimates each candidates aptitude and attitude for rural education.
     

    5. Preference is given to residents of BC. However, a small number of out-of-province applicants are accepted each year.
