    Application Advice: Applications may be submitted any time after September 15 for the following year.

    Applications received by January 31 (for September entry) will be considered for early admission. All other applications should be received by March 31 to ensure priority admissions processing and review. Applications for January entry should be submitted by October 31 to ensure priority admission and review.

    Admission Advice

    1. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called course prerequisites) which are listed within College of New Caledonia’s course description. Check course prerequisites before registering individual courses.

    2. You need at least a "B" in Principles of Math 12 (interim grade) or equivalent to meet the course prerequisite of MATH 101, CSC 109, PHYS 101 or CHEM 111.  

    3. If you need help meeting academic admission requirements and/or course prerequisites, academic upgrading options are available.

    • Mature student status with English and Math prerequisites as demonstrated on the Student Readiness Assessment

    Program Details:

    Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

    There are four ways to enter this Program. Choose from one of the following options. 

    Option A: 

    1. Grade 10 completion or equivalent

    2. English

    One of:

    • English 10 (C+)
    • ENGL 030 (C+)
    • equivalent

    3. Math

    One of:

    • Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 (C+)
    • MATH 030 (C+)
    • equivalent 

    Option B:
    completion of ESTR 037 (Intermediate-Level Essential Skills for Trades) with 67% or higher

    Option C:
    Completion of the following sections of the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT):

    • Reading Comprehension (10.9)
    • Number Operations (10.9)
    • Problem Solving (10.9)
    • Mechanical Reasoning (51/70, 6th Stanine or higher)
    Option D:
    • submitting Prior Learning Package including resume and supporting documents to demonstrate skills and work experience

    Admission Advice

    1. If you do not meet the above admission requirements, you can gain program entry by successfully completing appropriate assessments and/or upgrading courses. Feedback on the Assessments will be provided to help you make informed decisions about appropriate selection of upgrading courses. For more details, please contact a NLC academic advisor.

    • Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 (C)
    • Foundations of Math and Pre-calculus 10

    Non-Academic

    1. You are encouraged to:

    • submit a resume and handwritten statement outlining reasons for wanting to enter the program*
    • complete a test of mechanical reasoning skills*
    • complete the College English/Math Achievement Test (EMAT)* – which assesses proficiency in English and/or Math

    Note (*): These requirements will be used to select students if the program is oversubscribed.

    Admission Advice

    1. If you are a mature student (ie - at least 19 years old on the first day of classes and have been out of the regular school system for at least one year), it is possible to be admitted to the program without meeting the above academic admission requirements. For details, contact a CNC academic advisor.
