    BC High School Graduates require the following for entry into the Bachelor of Arts Program:

    • submit a record of your immunization status (upon acceptance into the program). The following immunizations are strongly recommended: diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and varicella. A Mantoux test (PPD) for tuberculosis is also strongly recommended.

    Annual documentation of current, practising College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC) licensure is required while enrolled in the program.

    Admission Advice

    1. If your high school was not taught in English, click here for NLC’s general English Language Proficiency requirements.

    2. If you do not meet the above admission requirements, you can gain program entry by successfully completing the appropriate assessments and/or upgrading courses. Feedback on the Assessments will be provided to help you make informed decisions about appropriate selection of upgrading courses. For more details, please contact a NLC academic advisor.  

    3. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within Northern Lights College’s course description. Some courses have recommended or required course prerequisites.  Please make sure you meet the course prerequisites before registering individual courses.

  • Social Service Worker Certificate

    • submit two letters of reference from a Social Service employer, volunteer supervisor, teacher or social service professional outlining your personal suitability for work in the social service field
    • submit a work/volunteer experience resume
    • at least 30 hours of documented volunteer experience in the last three years
    • submit a written statement (no longer than four pages) 
    • Criminal Record Search (through the Ministry of Justice; any costs are students' responsibility) 

    Admission Advice 

    1. The written statement will address your understanding of the social service field, interest in it, and personal attributes that will lead to success in the program.

    2. It is strongly recommended that you have current certificates in:

    • Emergency level First Aid
    • FoodSafe 

    3. Certificates in therapeutic crisis intervention or non-violent crisis intervention are also valuable assets for work in the field. 

    4. If you are accepted into the program, it's recommended that you also obtain TB testing and complete the immunization schedule suggested by Northern Health.

    2. Admission to this program is on a course-by-course basis.  Applicants to this program must meet the prerequisites for the individual courses in which they wish to enroll. 

    3. If you do not have the prerequisites for the courses you wish to take, it's possible to upgrade by taking Career and College Preparation courses along with selected university credit courses.

    4. If you are unsure of the courses needed for program entry and/or for course registration, contact a CMTN Educational Advisor. Advisors are available to help you access and navigate the courses/programs of interest to you.
